Aging is the phenotype resulting from accumulation of genetic, cellular, and molecular damages. Many factors have been identified as either the cause or consequence of age-related decline in functions and repair mechanisms. The hypothalamus is the source and a target of many of these factors and hormones responsible for the overall homeostasis in the body.

This report investigated the role of a food supplement--a composition of energy-exchange metabolites, with succinate as the main component--for treating menopausal syndrome. We studied the impact of a 4-week succinate-based food composition (SBC) treatment on the estral cycle, and bone mass and calcium content of aging mice.

A trend to an increase in estradiol level in early pathological climacteric and normalization of the endometrial status were observed.

We revealed an increase in the quality of life and decrease in the functional class of heart failure, incidence of arrhythmias and exercise-related pain, and blood cholesterol concentration.
