Evidence indicates that neurodegenerative diseases spread through distinct brain networks. For Parkinson's disease (PD), somatosensory abnormalities may accompany motor dysfunction in early disease stages when dopaminergic degeneration is limited to the basal ganglia. It remains unclear whether, based on the network-spread account, these abnormalities emanated from aberrant functional connectivity with the basal ganglia, and whether interventions normalizing this connectivity could reverse these abnormalities.

Importance: Anorexia nervosa (AN) is commonly associated with cardiovascular complications.

Objective: To investigate the trajectories of the risk of cardiovascular conditions in a nationwide cohort of patients with AN in Taiwan.

Design, Setting, And Participants: From a population-based health insurance database from January 1, 2011, to December 31, 2021, this longitudinal cohort study identified patients with AN and controls through propensity score matching at a 1:10 ratio according to sex, age, urbanization level of residence, socioeconomic status, and year of diagnosis.

The widespread distribution of microplastics (MPs) in the environment has motivated research on the ecological significance and fate of these pervasive particles. Recent studies have demonstrated that MPs may not always have negative effects, and in contrast, several species of Tenebrionidae beetles utilized plastic as a food source in controlled laboratory experiments. However, most studies of plastic-eating insects have not been ecologically realistic, and thus it is unclear whether results from these experiments apply more broadly.

Article Synopsis
  • The study investigates the relationship between anterior chamber gas fill during endothelial keratoplasty and intraocular pressure (IOP) and iris-angle configuration using OCT.
  • Eleven cadaveric eyes were tested in three configurations: baseline, full-fill, and overfill, measuring IOP and analyzing iris-angle through OCT.
  • Results show no significant differences between baseline and full-fill configurations, but notable differences exist when comparing both to the overfill configuration, suggesting that visual assessment of full-fill may not accurately reflect IOP changes.
