We investigate resonant third-harmonic generation in near-zero index thin films driven out-of-equilibrium by intense optical excitation. Adopting the Landau weak coupling formalism to incorporate electron-electron and electron-phonon scattering processes, we derive a novel set of hydrodynamic equations accounting for collision-driven nonlinear dynamics in sodium. By perturbatively solving hydrodynamic equations, we model third-harmonic generation by a thin sodium film, finding that such a nonlinear process is resonant at the near-zero index resonance of the third-harmonic signal.

Article Synopsis
  • MGMT silencing occurs in about 6-7% of pancreatic cancer (PAC) cases and is more common in tumors with non-ductal histology and KRAS wild type status.
  • This silencing is linked to longer overall survival and is associated with fewer KRAS mutations, as well as immune exclusion features.
  • The study suggests that MGMT-silenced PACs may respond better to treatments involving alkylating and DNA damaging agents, pointing to the potential for targeted therapy combinations.

Background: Nissen sleeve gastrectomy is a new bariatric procedure based on the combination of 2 well-known surgical techniques (vertical sleeve gastrectomy and Nissen fundoplication). It was conceived as a means to prevent the major drawback of the sleeve gastrectomy (SG), the gastroesophageal reflux disease (GERD), while preserving the advantages of SG in terms of weight loss, and remission of obesity-related comorbidities.

Objectives: The objectives of this study are to present the long-term (5 years) follow-up results on weight loss, evolution of GERD and other comorbidities, and the complication rate of the Nissen sleeve gastrectomy.

Background: Schizophrenia is characterized by significant cognitive impairments and affects up to 98% of patients. Neurofeedback (NF) offers a means to modulate neural network function through cognitive processes such as learning and memorization, with documented structural changes in the brain, most notably an increase in grey matter volume in targeted regions.

Methods: The present 2-week, open-label, preliminary study aims to evaluate the efficacy on cognition of an adjunctive short and intensive (8 daily sessions lasting 30 minutes) alpha/theta NF training in a sample of subjects affected by schizophrenia on stabilized treatment with atypical antipsychotic drugs.

Cancer remains a major challenge in medicine, prompting exploration of innovative therapies. Recent studies suggest that exercise-derived extracellular vesicles (EVs) may offer potential anti-cancer benefits. These small, membrane-bound particles, including exosomes, carry bioactive molecules such as proteins and RNA that mediate intercellular communication.
