Biosynthesis and Characterization of Silver Nanoparticles and Simvastatin Association in Titanium Biofilms.

Introduction: Simvastatin is an antilipidemic drug that has already demonstrated antibacterial activities on oral and non-oral microorganisms. Silver nanoparticles also exhibit antimicrobial properties, particularly for coating implant surfaces. In this study, we evaluated the effects of combining simvastatin with silver nanoparticles on the formation and viability of biofilms consolidated on titanium discs.

Verification of an alteration in the gut microbiota that increases nutritional risk in patients on hemodialysis.

In end-stage kidney disease requiring hemodialysis, patients at nutritional risk have a poor prognosis. The gut microbiota is important for maintaining the nutritional status of patients. However, it remains unclear whether an altered gut microbiota correlates with increased nutritional risk in patients undergoing hemodialysis.

Hip-lumbar mobility loss affects quality of life in patients undergoing both lumbar fusion and total hip arthroplasty.

Aims: Overall sagittal flexion is restricted in patients who have undergone both lumbar fusion and total hip arthroplasty (THA). However, it is not evident to what extent this movement is restricted in these patients and how this influences quality of life (QoL). The purpose of this study was to determine the extent to which hip-lumbar mobility is decreased in these patients, and how this affects their QoL score.

Optimal site of pacemaker lead implantation for persistent atrial standstill guided by electroanatomical mapping following a cox-maze procedure: a case report.

Background: Atrial standstill is characterized by the absence of atrial activity. We report a case of a patient with extensive atrial fibrosis who underwent electrophysiologic study (EPS) and electroanatomical mapping (EAM) to identify surviving atrial sites amenable for pacemaker lead implantation.

Case Summary: A 72-year-old man with persistent atrial fibrillation (AF) and atrial functional mitral regurgitation/tricuspid regurgitation (MR/TR) underwent a Cox-Maze surgery, mitral and tricuspid valve repair, and biatrial plication.

Fractionated non-pulmonary vein triggers contribute to spontaneous activity and initiating and maintaining paroxysmal atrial fibrillation: A case report.

Unlabelled: Pulmonary vein (PV) antrum isolation (PVAI) that involves electrically isolating PV foci is a useful treatment strategy for atrial fibrillation (AF). However, non-PV triggers during/after the PVAI are observed in approximately 30 % of AF cases, contributing to AF recurrence. We present the case of an 84-year-old woman who underwent ablation of recurrent symptomatic paroxysmal AF in our hospital.
