Introduction: Higher concentrations of the small-cell lung cancer (SCLC) serum marker, pro-gastrin-releasing peptide (proGRP), in lung inflammations has been indicated in literature. The objective of this study was to compare serum proGRP concentration in pneumonia, chronic obstructive pulmonary disease (COPD) and early-stage primary lung cancers.

Materials And Methods: An observational study was performed to assess serum proGRP against other lung cancer markers in pneumonia, COPD and in stage 1/2 carcinomas.

In the present study, the influence of heating on the evolution of oxidative indices, antioxidant activity, phenolic and volatile compounds in monovarietal extra virgin olive oils (EVOOs) obtained from Leccino, , and Buža cultivars was investigated. The samples were submitted to heating in an air oven (180 °C and 220 °C), simulating usual roasting conditions typical for Mediterranean cuisine. The decreases in the oxidative indicators, phenolic and volatile compounds were more pronounced at higher heating temperatures, underlining the temperature dependency of the oxidative degradation during heating conditions.

The roles of miR-20a-5p, a member of the oncogenic miR-17-92 cluster, remain poorly understood in the context of breast cancer. In this study, we elucidate the role of miR-20a-5p in breast cancer by examining its associations with breast cancer risk factors and clinicopathological features, and its functional roles in vitro.

Agricultural waste is underutilized, and sometimes burning them has a negative impact on the environment and human health. This research investigates the untapped potential of extracts from maize, wheat and sunflower waste as natural materials for cutaneous, specifically, cosmetic application. The possibility of incorporating lipid and ethanol extracts from wheat, maize, and sunflower into creams was investigated together with their potential contribution to the structural and functional properties of the topical formulations.
