Currently the hematoxylin and eosin staining procedure is the most popular among Mohs surgeons for histology. However, safranin O, a cheaper and relatively safer stain which is predominantly used for plant histology, should be considered as it offers similar or improved accuracy in the diagnosis of frozen sections of basal and squamous cell carcinomas.

Monozygous twin 14-year-old mentally retarded boys with the fragile X syndrome were treated either with 10 mg folic acid by mouth daily or with a placebo for three test periods of 3-month duration each in a blind study. For each twin, tests of cognitive functioning, reading, spelling, and math skills, and linguistic and perceptual skills were compared. Although there was considerable variation in performance on these tests during the two baseline periods, there were no observable beneficial effects of therapy.

A search for previously undiagnosed congenital rubella (CR) was made on 672 children who had attended psychiatric day treatment, learning, and speech and language centres. This was done by observing the seroresponse of seronegative children to rubella vaccine, since 90% of patients with known CR who are seronegative fail to seroconvert to the vaccine. Of the 225 seronegative children 23 did not seroconvert after a single vaccination.
