Patients with severe calcific native aortic valve stenosis (AS) who require valve replacement have two options, surgical aortic valve replacement (SAVR) or transcatheter aortic valve replacement (TAVR). TAVR was approved in late 2011 for extremely high-risk patients and was subsequently approved for high-risk (2012), intermediate-risk (2016), and low-risk (2019) patients. In 2019, TAVR procedures surpassed SAVR procedures for the first time in the United States.

This paper investigated the effects over time of different forms of neuromuscular training on hemodynamic responses, the estimated VO, and walking performance. 105 older adults were randomly organized into three groups: RG, RG, and the Control Group (CG). RG and RG did 4 weeks of adaptation phase training and 12 weeks of intervention with different loads: moderate loads for RG.

Caution advised in the use of CFTR modulator treatment for individuals harboring specific CFTR variants.

In December 2020, the U.S. Food and Drug Administration (FDA) expanded the list of CFTR variants approved for treatment with CFTR modulators drugs from 39 to 183.

"Do More, Feel Better": Pilot RCT of Lay-Delivered Behavioral Activation for Depressed Senior Center Clients.

This pilot randomized control trial (RCT) tested "Do More, Feel Better" (DMFB), a lay-delivered Behavioral Activation intervention for depressed senior center clients. The study examined: (1) the feasibility of training older lay volunteers to fidelity; and (2) the acceptability, safety, and impact of the intervention. Twenty-one lay volunteers at four senior centers were trained in DMFB.

Learning about sites of care for older adults: a jigsaw educational session for medical students.

Choosing the appropriate site of care for patients is a vital clinical skill when caring for older adults. For better patient safety and smoother transitions of care, we need improved curricula to train clinicians about the system of sites and services where older adults receive care. Here we present an innovative introduction for medical trainees to the complexities of long-term and post-acute care for geriatric patients.
