Aims: Hyperglycaemic conditions increase cardiac stress, a common phenomenon associated with inflammation, aging, and metabolic imbalance. Sodium-glucose cotransporter 2 inhibitors, a class of anti-diabetic drugs, showed to improve cardiovascular functions although their mechanism of action has not yet been fully established. This study investigated the effects of empagliflozin on cardiomyocytes following high glucose exposure, specifically focusing on inflammatory and metabolic responses.

In the last years, it has been proved that some viruses are able to re-structure chromatin organization and alter the epigenomic landscape of the host genome. In addition, they are able to affect the physical mechanisms shaping chromatin 3D structure, with a consequent impact on gene activity. Here, we investigate with polymer physics genome re-organization of the host genome upon SARS-CoV-2 viral infection and how it can impact structural variability within the population of single-cell chromatin configurations.

Objectives: Patients that survive acute aortic dissection (AD) remain at high risk of morbidity/mortality from structural changes of the aorta. Aortic surveillance is challenging, especially within a tertiary referral center. Our aim was to identify follow-up imaging and appointment rates, and factors associated with incomplete surveillance in patients with acute AD.

Background: Infection with Chlamydia trachomatis (CT) can have distinct clinical presentations, such as trachoma, or lymphogranuloma venereum (LGV). Certain populations are at greater risk for LGV acquisition and transmission, which requires a longer duration of therapy than other urogenital CT sexually transmitted infections (STIs). Commercial assays are not available in the United States to distinguish LGV from non-LGV serovars.

Objective: Participation in the Vascular Quality Initiative (VQI) provides important resources to surgeons, but the ability to do so is often limited by time and data entry personnel. Large language models (LLMs) such as ChatGPT (OpenAI) are examples of generative artificial intelligence products that may help bridge this gap. Trained on large volumes of data, the models are used for natural language processing and text generation.
