Curcumin is an antioxidant and anti-inflammatory molecule that may provide neuroprotection following central nervous system (CNS) injury. However, curcumin is hydrophobic, limiting its ability to be loaded and then released from biomaterials for neural applications. We previously developed polymers containing curcumin, and these polymers may be applied to neuronal devices or to neural injury to promote neuroprotection.

Knowledge of the spatial distribution of many polar seabird species is incomplete due to the remoteness of their breeding locations. Here, we compiled a new database of published and unpublished records of all known snow petrel breeding sites. We quantified local environmental conditions at sites by appending indices of climate and substrate, and regional-scale conditions by appending 30 year mean (1992-2021) sea-ice conditions within accessible foraging areas.

An InGaAs/GaAsSb type II superlattice (T2SL) absorber is a promising alternative material for a short-wavelength infrared (SWIR) photodetector due to the largely tunable bandgap by adjusting the thickness and material composition of InGaAs and GaAsSb in each T2SL period. We demonstrate a pBn type SWIR photodetector consisting of a strained InGaAs/GaAsSb T2SL absorber and AlGaAsSb barrier. The device presents an ultralow dark current density of 1.

Article Synopsis
  • * The study involved in-depth interviews with 22 mothers participating in a family-based obesity prevention program, revealing that time and taste were major barriers to healthy eating, while social influence played a complex role in their food choices.
  • * Findings suggest that while mothers are motivated to provide healthy meals for their children, they often neglect their own nutrition; future interventions should emphasize role-modeling healthy eating and include strategies for efficient meal planning to benefit the entire family.
