Instagram Engagement Helps Increase Residency Applicant Interest in Orthopaedic Surgery.

Introduction: This study aims to evaluate whether Instagram engagement data affect residency application volumes for orthopaedic surgery residency programs and rank the top 50 Instagram accounts associated with programs based on engagement.

Methods: Data from January 1, 2020 to June 30, 2023 were collected in August 2023 for Instagram metrics through Popsters social media analytic tool for business accounts and manually for nonbusiness accounts, as well as applicant numbers through the Association of American Medical College (AAMC) Residency Explorer Tool. Top 50 rankings were created from 2020 to 2022 based on engagement score, number of applicants, and growth in application numbers.

High Rate of Complications With Early Conversion Hip Arthroplasty Following Fracture Treatment.

Background: Conversion total hip arthroplasty (THA) is associated with higher rates of complications compared with primary THA, with prior surgical fixation of fractures in the ipsilateral hip shown to further increase these rates. There is a scarcity of literature on the effect of timing of conversion THA on complication rates. In this study, we evaluated early (≤6 months of index surgery) and late (>6 months of index surgery) conversion to THA following prior fixation of the proximal femur or acetabulum.

The barn owl is a common research subject in auditory science due to its exceptional capacity for high frequency hearing and superb sound source localization capabilities. Despite longstanding interest in the auditory performance of barn owls, the function of its middle ear has attracted remarkably little attention. Here, we report the middle ear transfer function measured by laser Doppler vibrometry and direct measurements of inner ear pressures.
