Water and suspended particulate matter (SPM) were collected from Xiaoqing Estuary and its adjacent waters in August 2022 to study the spatial distribution and risk assessment of Hg and As. The content of Hg in SPM samples ranged from 4.7152 to 446.

Biohydrogen fermentation from pretreated biomass in lignocellulose biorefinery: Effects of inhibitory byproducts and recent progress in mitigation strategies.

Lignocellulosic biomass (LCB) is expected to play a critical role in achieving the goal of biomass-to-bioenergy conversion because of its wide distribution and low price. Biomass fermentation is a promising method for the sustainable generation of biohydrogen (bioH) from the renewable feedstock. Due to the inherent resistant structure of biomass, LCB needs to be pretreated to improve its digestibility and utilization.

Short-term visual adaptation to body shape induces sustained aftereffect on body size estimation.

Visual adaptation to thin or large bodies was found to shift the subjective body normality towards the adapting body shape. Here we investigated the persistency of such adaptation effect by tracking the timecourse of decay of short-term body size adaptation in young healthy Chinese women. Participants adapted to contracted or expanded body images of unfamiliar female volunteers with a top-up paradigm.

Longitudinal relationship between adverse childhood experiences and depressive symptoms: the mediating role of physical pain.

Background: This study explored the relationship between Adverse Childhood Experiences (ACE), physical pain, and depressive symptoms, and examined the mediating role of pain in the correlation between ACE and depressive symptoms among middle-aged and elderly Chinese (over the age of 45).

Methods: Cox proportional hazards regression models were used to analysis the association between ACE, physical pain, and depressive symptoms. To assess the mediating role of physical pain in the relationship between ACE and depressive symptoms, mediation analysis was conducted.

Occurrence of 'soft flesh' condition induced by Kudoa thyrsites parasite in the Iberian European sardine stock.

European sardine Sardina pilchardus is a commercially valuable coastal pelagic fish species. Spain is one of the largest sardine suppliers in Europe and the Iberian stock is of particular significance. Kudoa parasites are known to infect sardines causing the so-called 'soft flesh' condition; however, data on the occurrence of 'soft flesh' in this sardine stock are limited.
