Minimally invasive left ventricular reconstruction of a postinfarction, anterior left ventricular scar (BioVentrix Revivent TC procedure).

Surgical ventricular reconstruction is a proven option for treating patients who have heart failure due to a postinfarction scar or an aneurysm of the left ventricle. The BioVentrix Revivent TC System offers a reliable alternative to the conventional, more invasive surgical ventricular restoration. The system requires no sternotomy, no heart-lung machine, and no cardioplegic arrest.

[Impact of nursing staff shortage on intensive care medicine capacity in Germany].

Background: Compared to other countries, Germany has the highest number of intensive care unit (ICU) beds, but, despite this, a shortage in ICU care is evident. Currently, little comprehensive data on ICU staffing and on subsequent closure of ICU beds are available. The current survey therefore aimed to systematically investigate the closure of ICU beds.

Emergence and control of linezolid-resistant Staphylococcus epidermidis in an ICU of a German hospital.

Objectives: To investigate an outbreak of linezolid-resistant Staphylococcus epidermidis (LRSE) in an interdisciplinary ICU, linezolid consumption and infection control measures taken.

Methods: Routine surveillance of nosocomial infections revealed colonization and infection with LRSE affecting 14 patients during a 15 month period. LRSE isolates were analysed with respect to their clonal relatedness, antimicrobial susceptibility, the presence of cfr and/or mutations in the 23S rRNA, rplC, rplD and rplV genes.

Control measures following a case of imported Lassa fever from Togo, North Rhine Westphalia, Germany, 2016.

In a patient transferred from Togo to Cologne, Germany, Lassa fever was diagnosed 12 days post mortem. Sixty-two contacts in Cologne were categorised according to the level of exposure, and gradual infection control measures were applied. No clinical signs of Lassa virus infection or Lassa specific antibodies were observed in the 62 contacts.

Long-term hearing outcomes after recurrent acute otitis media during early childhood.
