The spliceosome performs two consecutive transesterification reactions using one catalytic center, thus requiring its rearrangement between the two catalytic steps of splicing. The Prp16 ATPase facilitates exit from the first-step conformation of the catalytic center by destabilizing some interactions important for catalysis. To better understand rearrangements within the catalytic center, we characterize factors that modulate the function of Prp16: Cwc2, N-terminal domain of Prp8, and U6-AACAAU region.

Cough, the main airway defensive process, is modulated by multiple sensory inputs from the respiratory system and outside of it. This modulation is one of the mechanisms that contributes to the sensitization of cough pathways at the peripheral and/or central level via neuroplasticity and it manifests most often as augmented coughing. Cardiorespiratory coupling is an important mechanism responsible for a match between oxygenation and cardiac output and bidirectional relationships exist between respiration and cardiovascular function.

Available antitussive therapy still has limited efficacy. Recent advances in the understanding of voltage-gated sodium channels (Nas) lead to the rational hypothesis that subtype Na1.

The main reasons for low immunisation coverage include parents' concerns about the safety of vaccines, their fears related to possible adverse events following vaccination, and the increasingly powerful activity of anti-vaccine movements. It is necessary to monitor the public's attitudes to vaccination in order to implement appropriate solutions to prevent a resurgence of epidemics.
