Background: The presence of full-thickness cartilage in the lateral compartment on valgus stress radiography is a criterion for medial mobile-bearing unicompartmental knee arthroplasty (UKA). However, the appropriateness of medial UKA is uncertain when preoperative MRI shows extrusion of the lateral meniscus. We therefore assessed how preoperative MRI-detected lateral meniscus extrusion affects mid-term functional outcomes after mobile-bearing UKA.

Hyperemia in response to neural activity is essential for brain health. A hyperemic response delivers O and nutrients, clears metabolic waste, and concomitantly exposes cerebrovascular endothelial cells to hemodynamic forces. While neurovascular research has primarily centered on the front end of hyperemia-neuronal activity-to-vascular response-the mechanical consequences of hyperemia have gone largely unexplored.

Article Synopsis
  • Planning for ischemic stroke treatment in postoperative aortic dissection patients is challenging due to risks with thrombolytic agents and access for thrombectomy.
  • A case study is presented of a 52-year-old man who experienced a stroke from stent graft thrombosis after aortic repair, which necessitated both mechanical thrombectomy and surgical interventions.
  • The successful collaboration between cardiovascular and neurological specialists, along with innovative approaches like direct carotid artery puncture, underscores the importance of interdisciplinary care and dual-specialty training for better patient outcomes.*

Sporadic inclusion body myositis (sIBM) is a muscle disease in older people and is characterized by inflammatory cell invasion into intact muscle fibers and rimmed vacuoles. The pathomechanism of sIBM is not fully elucidated yet, and controversy exists as to whether sIBM is a primary autoimmune disease or a degenerative muscle disease with secondary inflammation. Previously, we established a method of collecting CD56-positive myoblasts from human skeletal muscle biopsy samples.

Posterior dislocation of the shoulder joint is a rare condition. It is often misdiagnosed owing to a lack of evident clinical features compared with anterior shoulder dislocation, and inappropriate radiological examination. We present a case of chronic posterior fracture dislocation treated with greater tuberosity osteotomy.
