Article Synopsis
  • The study aimed to evaluate the accuracy of paramedics in determining if a heart rhythm is shockable during CPR, using both simulated ECG recordings and an automated external defibrillator (AED) for assessment.
  • Out of 103 participating paramedics, the average accuracy in making correct defibrillation decisions was 83.7%, with scores ranging from 45.5% to 100%. The AED mode showed a mean accuracy of 77.3%.
  • The findings suggest the need for enhanced training and continuous quality monitoring for paramedics to improve rhythm recognition, emphasizing that AEDs should support, not replace, professional assessment in emergencies.
