Article Synopsis
  • In early-stage breast cancer (EBC) patients, there is a need for biomarkers to predict the risk of late recurrence and the benefit from extended endocrine therapy (EET), specifically using the MammaPrint 70-gene assay to identify low-risk tumors.
  • The study analyzed postmenopausal women with hormone receptor-positive EBC from the IDEAL trial to see if the MammaPrint assay could help decide between 2.5 years and 5 years of treatment with letrozole.
  • Results showed that patients with low-risk tumors had a significant benefit of 10.1% for distant recurrence with longer treatment, while no significant benefits were found for high-risk or ultralow risk patients regarding treatment duration

Background: Atherosclerosis, the main underlying pathology of cardiovascular disease, is a chronic inflammatory disease characterized by lipid accumulation and immune cell responses in the vascular wall, resulting in plaque formation. It is well-known that atherosclerosis prevalence and manifestation vary by sex. However, sexual dimorphism in the immune landscape of atherosclerotic plaques has up to date not been studied at high-resolution.

Positive health (PH) has been described as a promising transformative innovation to address the challenges of promoting well-being and reducing the burden of disease. For this study, we conducted a scientific literature review of the current state of knowledge about PH as introduced by Huber and colleagues, following the Cochrane Rapid Review recommendations. Three databases were searched (PubMed, Google Scholar, and CINAHL).

Background: We aimed to evaluate whether baseline GLS (global longitudinal strain), NT-proBNP, and changes in these after cardiac resynchronization therapy (CRT) can predict long-term clinical outcomes and the echocardiographic-based response to CRT (defined by 15% relative reduction in left ventricular end-systolic volume).

Methods: We enrolled 143 patients with stable ischemic heart failure (HF) undergoing CRT-D implantation. NT-proBNP and echocardiography were obtained before and 6 months after.
