Vaginal candidiasis poses significant health concerns that affect approximately 75% of women globally and often leads to discomfort and a decrease in quality of life. Traditional treatments, despite their effectiveness, may cause discomfort and adverse effects, such as vaginal discharge, bleeding, and dryness, promoting the exploration of alternative formulations. In this study, we aimed to develop a novel therapeutic approach for the treatment of vaginal candidiasis utilizing oleic acid containing emulgels made from thermoresponsive poloxamer-based hydrogels.

Neuroinflammation precedes the clinical onset of various neurodegenerative diseases, including Alzheimer's disease (AD), by years or frequently even decades (1-3). In terms of the underlying physiology, there is a great need for understanding and controlling interactions between the central nervous system (CNS) and the immune system in an attempt to develop approaches to prevent or delay the disease's progression. Nerve cells have limited motion capability, whereas immune cells can migrate freely via circulation.

Article Synopsis
  • Altered tryptophan (TRP) metabolism is linked to migraine susceptibility through its effects on serotonin and kynurenine, which influence pain processing and stress response.
  • A study compared the TRP metabolism and cytokine profiles in females with episodic migraines and healthy controls before and after acute citalopram treatment, revealing differences in TRP levels and responses to the treatment.
  • The findings suggest that migraine patients have impaired TRP breakdown and modulation, leading to increased vascular sensitivity, indicating potential new targets for migraine treatment development.

Today, in addition to many different physicochemical and pharmacological properties of the active ingredients and excipients, the developer of a pharmaceutical formulation must take into account several factors during the formulation process in order for the patient to cooperate to use the formulation accurately. One of the innovative solutions in paediatrics may be the use of medicated drinking straws. For our studies, we successfully prepared lactase-containing, rapid disintegration particles by two techniques commonly used in the pharmaceutical industry.

Parvalbumin-containing (PV) basket cells are specialized cortical interneurons that regulate the activity of local neuronal circuits with high temporal precision and reliability. To understand how the PV interneuron connectivity underlying these functional properties is established during development, we used array tomography to map pairs of synaptically connected PV interneurons and postsynaptic neurons from the neocortex of mice of both sexes. We focused on the axon-myelin unit of the PV interneuron and quantified the number of synapses onto the postsynaptic neuron, length of connecting axonal paths, and their myelination at different time points between 2 weeks and 7 months of age.
