It has been previously shown that mice subjected to an aerosol exposure to Yersinia pestis and treated with β-lactam antibiotics after a delay of 42 h died at an accelerated rate compared to controls. It was hypothesized that endotoxin release in antibiotic-treated mice accounted for the accelerated death rate in the mice exposed to aerosol Y. pestis.

We evaluated probability of target attainment and cumulative probability of target attainment of 30-min and 3-h infusions for imipenem/cilastatin and meropenem. Eighteen healthy adults in a randomized, 4-phase, crossover study received 1000 mg of imipenem/cilastatin or meropenem as a single-dose IV over 30 min or 3 h.

Patients And Methods: Healthy volunteers in randomized, two-period crossover studies received single- and multiple-dose s.c.
We studied meropenem in 23 pre-term (gestational age, 29 to 36 weeks) and 15 full-term (gestational age, 37 to 42 weeks) neonates. Meropenem doses of 10, 20, and 40 mg/kg were administered as single doses (30-min intravenous infusion) on a random basis. Blood was obtained for determining the meropenem concentration nine times.
