Primary aorto-enteric fistula as a rare cause of massive gastrointestinal haemorrhage.

The incidence of primary aorto-enteric fistula (PAEF) is low with only few case reports and case series published. Depending on the location of the PAEF, the perforation leads to upper or lower gastrointestinal haemorrhages. We conducted a MEDLINE search according to the PRISMA statement.

The presented case reports illustrate the value of post-mortem computed tomography in cases of homicide in which the body was hidden in a container or packaging material and could not be inspected directly from outside. In Case 1, the body was forced into a suitcase, which was then thrown into a flood basin. Post-mortem computed tomography (PMCT) visualized the compressed and extremely flexed body inside the suitcase as well as fractures of the left temporal bone, the left ulna and the left side of the mandible.

A novel electromagnetic navigation tool for acetabular surgery.

Background: Acetabular fracture surgery is demanding and screw placement along narrow bony corridors remains challenging. It necessitates x-ray radiation for fluoroscopically assisted screw insertion. The purpose of this cadaver study was to evaluate the feasibility, accuracy and operation time of a novel electromagnetic navigation system for screw insertion along predefined acetabular corridors.

Mechanical properties of pelvic soft tissue of young women and impact of aging.

Introduction And Hypothesis: The female pelvic floor is a complex network of ligaments and muscles whose mechanical properties have not been completely understood. The goal of this study is to understand the biomechanical properties of the pelvic floor tissues of young women and the impact of aging.

Methods: Biomechanical uniaxial tension tests were performed on pelvic floor tissues (ligaments and organs) of six young female cadavers (average 29 years old).

Picosecond infrared laser (PIRL): an ideal phonomicrosurgical laser?

A comparison of tissue cutting effects in excised cadaver human vocal folds after incisions with three different instruments [scalpel, CO2 laser and the picosecond infrared laser-(PIRL)] was performed. In total, 15 larynges were taken from human cadavers shortly after death. After deep freezing and thawing for the experiment, the vocal folds suspended in the hemilarynx were incised.
