Impact of Dapagliflozin Adjunctive Therapy on the Progression of Chronic Kidney Disease in Patients with Type 2 Diabetes and Chronic Kidney Disease Stages 2-5: A systematic review and meta-analysis.

This meta-analysis investigated efficacy of dapagliflozin as adjunctive therapy for patients with type 2 diabetes mellitus (T2DM) and chronic kidney disease (CKD) stages 2-5. A systematic search was conducted of selected databases for randomised controlled trials that reported the mean change in estimated glomerular filtration rate (eGFR) and urine albumin-creatinine ratio (UACR) from baseline. Out of 1,682 identified studies, 9 trials comprising 13,057 patients were included.

Progress and challenges in the design of ITER's polarimetric Thomson scattering diagnostic system.

Polarimetric Thomson scattering (PTS) is a technique that allows for accurate measurements of electron temperature (Te) in very hot plasmas (Te > 10 keV, a condition expected to be regularly achieved in ITER). Under such conditions, the spectral region spanned by the TS spectrum is large and extends to low wavelengths, where the transmission of the collection optics decreases, available detectors are less efficient, and the high level of plasma background light perturbs the measurements. This work presents the recent developments in the design of a PTS system for ITER, along with the challenges posed by the complex machine design.

Hypothalamus-pituitary-adrenal axis (HPA axis) suppression with inappropriate use of steroids in recalcitrant dermatophytosis - A cross-sectional study.

Background: Improper use of over-the-counter (OTC) steroid medication has been linked to recalcitrant dermatophytosis. There is proven evidence of HPA axis suppression by the use of long-term oral steroids. This study aims to determine the prevalence and pattern of inappropriate OTC steroid use and its effects on the hypothalamus-pituitary-adrenal (HPA) axis in adults with recalcitrant dermatophytosis.

Assessing the performance of new chromatographic technologies for the separation of peptide epimeric impurities: the case of Icatibant.

The biopharmaceutical industry faces the challenge of efficiently characterising impurity profiles of therapeutical peptides, also due to their complex polar and ionisable attributes. This research explores the potential of advanced chromatographic techniques to address this challenge. The study compares dynamic electrostatic repulsion reversed phase (d-ERRP) to its counterparts (static ERRP and ion pair reversed phase IP-RP) in analysing Icatibant and its elusive epimeric impurity, [L-Arg]-Icatibant and highlights its exceptional capabilities in generating symmetric peaks, mitigating the common tailing phenomenon, and serving as a steadfast guardian of column longevity.

Measurement of gravitational and thermal effects in a liquid-actuated torsion pendulum.

We describe a proof-of-principle experiment aiming to investigate the inverse-square law of gravitation at the centimeter scale. The sensor is a two-stage torsion pendulum, while actuation is accomplished by a variable liquid mass. The time-varying gravitational force is related to the level of the circulating fluid in one or two containers at a short distance from the test mass, with all moving mechanical parts positioned at a large distance.
