Background: Chronic kidney disease (CKD) is associated with higher risk of myocardial infarction and anemia. Among patients with anemia and CKD who experience myocardial infarction, it remains uncertain if a liberal red blood cell transfusion threshold strategy (hemoglobin cutoff [Hgb] < 10 g/dL) is superior to a restrictive transfusion threshold (Hgb 7-8 g/dL) strategy.

Methods: Among the 3,504 patients enrolled in the Myocardial Ischemia and Transfusion (MINT) trial with non-missing creatinine, we compared baseline characteristics and 30-day and 6-month outcomes of patients without CKD (N = 1279), CKD with eGFR 30-60 mL/min/1.

Aims: Catheter-based radiofrequency renal denervation (RF RDN) is an interventional treatment for uncontrolled hypertension. This analysis explored the therapy's lifetime cost-effectiveness in a Canadian healthcare setting.

Materials And Methods: A decision-analytic Markov model was used to project health events, costs, and quality-adjusted life years over a lifetime horizon.

Spontaneous coronary artery dissection (SCAD) is an increasingly recognized cause of acute coronary syndromes. Fibromuscular dysplasia (FMD) is an idiopathic, nonatherosclerotic, and noninflammatory arterial disease that affects small- to medium-sized arteries that can result in multifocal aneurysms, stenosis, tortuosity, and dissections. Extracoronary FMD has been identified in approximately 70% of SCAD patients and it is recommended that all SCAD patients undergo screening for FMD once in their lifetime using computed tomography angiography from head to pelvis.

Article Synopsis
  • * It involves a subgroup analysis of over 3,100 participants from the MINT clinical trial conducted across multiple countries between 2017 and 2023, with a 30-day follow-up period and primary outcomes related to death or recurrent MI.
  • * Results indicated that 34.3% of participants had acute anemia, and the researchers explored the link between anemia type and post-MI outcomes, assessing various secondary complications as well.
