Article Synopsis
  • Indoor dust contains a variety of chemicals from everyday products, and information about contaminants of emerging concern (CECs) in this dust is limited.
  • Dust samples were collected from different indoor environments in urban India, revealing hazardous substances through advanced analysis techniques like ATR-FTIR and LC-Q-ToF-MS.
  • This study identifies 19 compounds, including pesticides and other chemical classes, marking the first report of CECs in indoor environments in Kerala and suggesting a need for further research on indoor pollution.

Article Synopsis
  • Pyogenic spinal infections are a global health issue, with many cases remaining undiagnosed, and bacteria are more commonly identified than fungi or parasites.
  • A study used universal prokaryotic PCR to detect bacterial agents in 57 patient samples from suspected pyogenic spondylodiscitis, with MRI showing key features like disc destruction and inflammation.
  • Results showed that the lumbar spine was the most affected area, with various bacterial agents identified, while some samples suggested the possibility of non-bacterial infections or other processes being involved.

In this paper we describe the first in vitro response to the liver alloantigen F. The anti-F response serves as a valuable model for autoimmune phenomena since priming appropriate strains of mice (responders) with allogeneic but not syngeneic type F leads to autoantibody production. The in vitro system is based on the proliferation of T cells, from mice primed in vivo with F, when coincubated with splenic adherent cells (SAC) prepulsed with F in vivo.
