Aims: In patients of all ages, metamizole is a frequently used analgesic. Recently, metamizole has been identified as an inducer of, among others, cytochrome P450 (CYP) 3A activity, but the time course of this interaction has not been evaluated.
Methods: Using repeated oral microdoses (30 μg) of the CYP3A index substrate midazolam, we assessed changes in midazolam pharmacokinetics (area under the concentration-time curve from 2-4 h: AUC and estimated partial metabolic clearance: eCl ) before, at steady-state, and after discontinuation of 3 × 1000 mg metamizole/day orally for 8 days.
Purpose: The use of two-dimensional (2D) printing technologies of drugs on orodispersible films (ODF) can promote dose individualization and facilitate drug delivery in vulnerable patients, including children. We investigated midazolam pharmacokinetics after the administration of 2D-printed ODF.
Methods: Midazolam doses of 0.

We present a preliminary investigation on distributed humidity monitoring during the drying process of concrete based on an embedded polymer optical fiber (POF). The water dissipated into the POF changes several properties of the fiber such as refractive index, scattering coefficient and attenuation factor, which eventually alters the Rayleigh backscattered light. The optical time domain reflectometer (OTDR) technique is performed to acquire the backscattered signal at the wavelengths 650 nm and 500 nm, respectively.
View Article and Find Full Text PDFDistributed measurement of humidity is a sought-after capability for various fields of application, especially in the civil engineering and structural health monitoring sectors. This article presents a method for distributed humidity sensing along polymethyl methacrylate (PMMA) polymer optical fibers (POFs) by analyzing wavelength-dependent Rayleigh backscattering and attenuation characteristics at 500 nm and 650 nm wavelengths. Spatially resolved humidity sensing is obtained from backscatter traces of a dual-wavelength optical time domain reflectometer (OTDR).

Objectives: The main objective of the present study is to study the therapeutic efficiency of doxycycline in a double-blinded randomised phase II study in a cohort of patients with sporadic Creutzfeldt-Jakob disease (sCJD).
Methods: From the National Reference Center of TSE Surveillance in Germany, patients with probable or definite sCJD were recruited for a double-blinded randomised study with oral doxycycline (EudraCT 2006-003934-14). In addition, we analysed the data from patients with CJD who received compassionate treatment with doxycycline in a separate group.
