Introduction: Spin reporting has been studied across a variety of study types and domains; however, it has yet to be studied in the context of pilot and feasibility trials. We designed this methodological survey to evaluate spin reporting in surgical pilot and feasibility trials.

Patients with recurrent high-grade glioma (rHGG) have a poor prognosis with median progression-free survival (PFS) of <7 months. Responses to treatment are heterogenous, suggesting a clinical need for prognostic models. Bayesian data analysis can exploit individual patient follow-up imaging studies to adaptively predict the risk of progression.

Metabolically active cells emit volatile organic compounds (VOCs) that can be used in real time to non-invasively monitor the health of cell cultures. We utilized these naturally occurring VOCs in an adapted culture method to detect differences in culturing Chinese hamster ovary (CHO) cells with and without Staphylococcus epidermidis and Aspergillus fumigatus contaminations. The VOC emissions from the cell cultures were extracted and measured from the culture flask headspace using polydimethylsiloxane (PDMS)-coated Twisters, which were subjected to thermal desorption-gas chromatography-mass spectrometry (TD-GC-MS) analysis.

Importance: Intraoperative parathyroid hormone (IOPTH) monitoring is recommended by the American Association of Endocrine Surgeons for use during parathyroidectomy for patients with primary hyperparathyroidism (PHPT), but there is no clinician consensus regarding the IOPTH monitoring criteria that optimize diagnostic accuracy.

Objective: To evaluate and rank the diagnostic properties of IOPTH monitoring criteria used during surgery for patients with PHPT.

Data Sources: A bayesian diagnostic test accuracy network meta-analysis (DTA-NMA) was performed, in which peer-reviewed citations from January 1, 1990, to July 22, 2023, were searched for in MEDLINE, Embase, Web of Science, CENTRAL, and CINAHL.

Introduction: Understanding the reliability of outcomes in randomized controlled trials (RCTs) is crucial, as standard metrics, such as P-value do not fully capture result fragility. This led to the adoption of specific indices: the fragility index (FI), which measures the strength of trial through significant results by calculating the minimum number of patient status changes from nonevent to event required to make the results statistically insignificant; reverse fragility index (RFI), used for insignificant results; and continuous fragility index (CFI), which acts similar to FI for significant continuous outcomes. The objective is to assess the robustness of orthopaedics RCTs using these indices across leading orthopaedic journals.
