Anaplasma capra in sheep and goats on Corsica Island, France: A European lineage within A. capra clade II?

Anaplasmosis is a tick-transmitted disease due to several species of the genus Anaplasma. In 2019, we demonstrated the presence of Anaplasma capra in two deer species at a zoological park in mainland France. As we suspected its presence in Corsica, we surveyed 11 geographically distant sheep or goat farms.

Human babesiosis in Alsace.

Objectives: Human babesiosis is a rare parasitic anthropozoonosis transmitted to humans by tick bites. Fifty-six cases of human babesiosis have been recorded in Europe. Two cases of babesiosis were reported in Alsace, France, in 2009.

First detection and molecular identification of the zoonotic Anaplasma capra in deer in France.

Cervids are known to be reservoirs of zoonotic bacteria transmitted by ticks. This study aimed to identify the Anaplasma species carried by captive red deer and swamp deer in a wild fauna reserve in France. Blood from 59 red deer and 7 swamp deer was collected and analyzed over a period of two years.

Detecting and characterizing mixed infections with genetic variants of Anaplasma phagocytophilum in roe deer (Capreolus capreolus) by developing an ankA cluster-specific nested PCR.

Background: Anaplasma phagocytophilum is a tick-transmitted Gram-negative obligate intracellular bacterium able to infect a wide variety of wild and domestic animals worldwide. Based on the genetic diversity observed with different molecular markers, several host-specific lineages have been identified. Roe deer is one of the most important reservoirs of this bacterium and hosts different genetic groups sometimes found on domestic animals.

Low prevalence of zoonotic Babesia in small mammals and Ixodes ricinus in Brittany, France.

In order to evaluate the zoonotic risk due to Babesia spp., especially B. microti, we investigated their presence in 597 individuals of five small mammal species and in 2620 questing nymphs of Ixodes ricinus in rural landscapes of Western France (Brittany).
