Mental health differences in medical students based on curriculum and gender.

Background: The prevalence of mental health struggles among students in medical school is widely reported; however, little is known about how it is impacted by the medical school curriculum. This study aimed to evaluate differences in anxiety, depression, and emotional exhaustion in medical students based on gender, class year, and curriculum.

Methods: An anonymous online survey consisting of questions from established, validated questionnaires about demographics, anxiety, depression, emotional exhaustion, and personal health behaviors was sent to 817 medical students who attended Rowan-Virtua School of Osteopathic Medicine during the Spring of 2021.

Sexuality- and Fertility-Related Issues in Women after Allogeneic Hematopoietic Stem Cell Transplantation.

Sexual dysfunction and fertility related issues appear as major post-allogeneic hematopoietic stem cell transplantation (HSCT) late effects in young women, with a heavy impact on quality of life. The objective of the present study was to evaluate the impact of disease and treatments on sexual quality of life, ovarian function, and family planning initiatives in the context of allogeneic HSCT. Between January 2014 and January 2016, adult female patients who underwent HSCT before age 35 and had been followed for more than 2 years in our center were offered participation in the study through a self-reported survey and/or ovarian function assessment if age <40 at inclusion.

Poor outcome associated with mucormycosis in critically ill hematological patients: results of a multicenter study.

Background: Mucormycosis is an emerging fungal infection that may lead to multi-organ failure, especially in patients with hematological malignancies (HM). We performed a retrospective, cohort study, in five intensive care units (ICU) to assess the outcome of critically ill patients with HM and mucormycosis between 2002 and 2018. The secondary objective was to identify prognostic factors in this setting.

Mitochondrial disease disrupts hepatic allostasis and lowers the threshold for immune-mediated liver toxicity.

Objective: In individuals with mitochondrial disease, respiratory viral infection can result in metabolic decompensation with mitochondrial hepatopathy. Here, we used a mouse model of liver-specific Complex IV deficiency to study hepatic allostasis during respiratory viral infection.

Methods: Mice with hepatic cytochrome c oxidase deficiency (LivCox10) were infected with aerosolized influenza, A/PR/8 (PR8), and euthanized on day five after infection following three days of symptoms.
