Pneumonia, a leading cause of mortality in children under five, is usually diagnosed through chest X-ray (CXR) images due to its efficiency and cost-effectiveness. However, the shortage of radiologists in the Least Developed Countries (LDCs) emphasizes the need for automated pneumonia diagnostic systems. This article presents a Deep Learning model, Zero-Order Optimized Convolutional Neural Network (ZooCNN), a Zero-Order Optimization (Zoo)-based CNN model for classifying CXR images into three classes, Normal Lungs (NL), Bacterial Pneumonia (BP), and Viral Pneumonia (VP); this model utilizes the Adaptive Synthetic Sampling (ADASYN) approach to ensure class balance in the Kaggle CXR Images (Pneumonia) dataset.

Eloquent brain creates a challenge when resecting brain arteriovenous malformations (bAVMs). Here the authors present their technique of using subcortical motor mapping as an adjunct to increase safety during resection of a high-grade bAVM involving somatosensory cortex as well as cortical spinal tracts and visual tracts. After a bilateral craniotomy, they use direct cortical stimulation of the left motor cortex and subcortical stimulation using a suction stimulator to dynamically map motor tracts during the resection.

Brainstem tumors are bounded by a compact topography of eloquent tracts, cranial nerves, and nuclei. Reliable intraoperative neuromonitoring aids microneurosurgical technique to optimize safe resection. The authors present a case of motor mapping-guided resection of a recurrent brainstem pilocytic astrocytoma.

Chest pain with no obstructive cardiac disease is associated with coronary microvascular disease (CMD), where narrowing of the small blood vessels can lead to ischemia, and frequently reported by SLE patients. Using whole blood RNA samples, we asked whether gene signatures discriminate SLE patients with coronary microvascular dysfunction (CMD) on cardiac MRI (n = 4) from those without (n = 7) and whether any signaling pathway is linked to the underlying pathobiology of SLE CMD.

We executed a simple a screen using malachite green to detect compounds that decreased ATP hydrolysis and tested a library of diverse compounds to find inhibitors of CHIKV nsP2 helicase.
