Stem cell-based cell therapeutics and especially those based on human mesenchymal stem cells (hMSCs) and induced pluripotent stem cells (hiPSCs) are said to have enormous developmental potential in the coming years. Their applications range from the treatment of orthopedic disorders and cardiovascular diseases to autoimmune diseases and even cancer. However, while more than 27 hMSC-derived therapeutics are currently commercially available, hiPSC-based therapeutics have yet to complete the regulatory approval process.

In recent years, the use of hMSCs, which may be isolated from adipose tissue among others, for the treatment of diseases has increased significantly. The cell quantities required for such therapeutic approaches, between 10 and 10, have thus far been predominantly produced using commercially available multi-tray systems, such as the Cell Factory (Thermo Fisher Scientific) or HYPERStack (Corning), which can be purchased with up to 40 layers. However, the handling of these planar multilayer systems is difficult, and process monitoring opportunities remain limited.

High temperature (heat) stress reduces tuber yield and quality of potatoes. Screening potatoes for heat tolerance is increasingly important, considering the climate change scenario and expansion of potatoes to countries where heat stress is an issue. screening for tolerance to abiotic stresses offers several advantages, including quick evaluation of numerous genotypes (clones) in reduced space, controlled environmental conditions (temperature and photoperiod), and free from confounding variables inherent to greenhouse and field conditions.

Background: The Center for Epidemiologic Studies Depression Scale (CES-D; Radloff, 1977) is a commonly used freely available self-report measure of depressive symptoms. Despite its popularity, several recent investigations have called into question the robustness and suitability of the commonly used 4-factor 20-item CES-D model. The goal of the current study was to address these concerns by confirming the factorial validity of the CES-D.

Receptor activator of NF-kappa B ligand (RANKL) and its receptor activator of NF-kappa B (RANK) play pivotal roles in osteoclast differentiation and function. However, the structural determinants of the RANK that mediate osteoclast formation and function have not been definitively identified. To address this issue, we developed a chimeric receptor approach that permits a structure/function study of the RANK cytoplasmic domain in osteoclasts.
