Healthcare Simulation Training Guidelines and Literature Reviews From the Third Society for Simulation in Healthcare Research Summit.

The Society for Simulation in Healthcare held its third research summit in January 2023 with the aim of establishing evidence-based guidelines for healthcare simulation training. A panel of researchers, clinicians, and subject-matter experts conducted reviews of the literature addressing 12 key topics and followed a formal process to generate 16 guidelines for simulation-based training in healthcare. Eleven peer-reviewed literature reviews accompany these guidelines.

Background: Trauma patients exhibit a multifactorial hypercoagulable state and have increased risk of venous thromboembolism (VTE). Despite early and aggressive chemoprophylaxis (CP) with various heparin compounds ("standard" CP; sCP), VTE rates remain high. In high-quality studies, aspirin has been shown to decrease VTE in postoperative elective surgical and orthopedic trauma patients.

Enhancing Nonverbal Communication Through Virtual Human Technology: Protocol for a Mixed Methods Study.

Background: Communication is a critical component of the patient-provider relationship; however, limited research exists on the role of nonverbal communication. Virtual human training is an informatics-based educational strategy that offers various benefits in communication skill training directed at providers. Recent informatics-based interventions aimed at improving communication have mainly focused on verbal communication, yet research is needed to better understand how virtual humans can improve verbal and nonverbal communication and further elucidate the patient-provider dyad.
