Clinical workplace learning is often suboptimal due to the dynamics of the clinical learning environment and several challenges encountered in clinical practice. At LUMC, clinical teachers introduced a novel blended learning program that included both the introduction of a Clinical Teaching Unit (CTU) and Small Private Online Course (SPOC). This study aimed to analyze the educational content and design of our educational interventions, by categorizing and comparing the dimensions of the learning program before and after the interventions.
View Article and Find Full Text PDFBackground: To study the feasibility of hepatobiliary scintigraphy (HBS) to improve selection and planning of patients with hepatocellular carcinoma (HCC) treated with holmium-166 (Ho)-microspheres radioembolization.
Results: Thirty-one patients with HCC were included and treated with Ho- radioembolization as part of a prospective phase 2 study. Twenty-seven patients were eligible for analysis, 67% had a cirrhotic liver morphology on imaging, 70% had multifocal disease and 51% had bilobar disease.
Purpose: At LUMC, a Small Private Online Course (SPOC) was developed complementary to the clinical learning environment of the internal medicine clerkship. The developers used the self-determination theory in the design of the SPOC's assignments aiming to improve learners' intrinsic motivation. This study investigates the impact of the SPOC and its specific assignments on student motivation.

Background: Alemtuzumab can be an alternative to rabbit anti-thymocyte globulin (rATG) to treat severe or glucocorticoid-resistant acute T cell-mediated kidney transplant rejection (TCMR). Yet, there are few reports in which these two treatments are evaluated let alone, compared. This study describes the real-world clinical experience of both therapies and compares their efficacy and toxicity.
