Wild organisms are increasingly exposed to multiple anthropogenic and natural stressors that can interact in complex ways and lead to unexpected effects. In aquatic ecosystems, contamination by trace metals has deleterious effects on fish health and commonly co-occurs with pathogens, which affect similar physiological and behavioral traits. However, the combined effects of metal contamination and parasitism are still poorly known.

This study was conducted to determine the impact of dedicated ID team rounding in an adult noncardiac intensive care unit (ICU) on antimicrobial costs, length of stay and mortality.
Methods: The authors instituted dedicated ICU ID team rounds at a large tertiary care hospital ICU ("intervention"), with the ID team conducting rounds in the ICU every weekday.
OXA-48-producing isolates were identified in approximately 4% and less than 1% of ESBL-producing and non-ESBL-producing E. coli and K. pneumoniae causing bacteremia at the largest tertiary hospital in Abu Dhabi.

One hundred and ten clinically relevant, non-repeat strains were typed by blaOXA-51-like allele sequencing and by PFGE, and selected isolates also by MLST. Resistance was assessed by MIC determinations and by disc diffusion.
