During the last decade, there have been many advances in research and technology that have greatly contributed to expanded capabilities and knowledge in detection and measurement, characterization, biosynthesis, and management of mycotoxins in maize. MycoKey, an EU-funded Horizon 2020 project, was established to advance knowledge and technology transfer around the globe to address mycotoxin impacts in key food and feed chains. MycoKey included several working groups comprising international experts in different fields of mycotoxicology.

Objective: Otitis media, facial pain in trigeminal region, and ipsilateral abducens nerve palsy clinically define Gradenigo syndrome, a rare but serious complication of suppurative middle ear infection. Radiological investigation is required to confirm petrous apex involvement and to exclude further consequences as sinus thrombosis, meningitis, and intracranial abscess.

Methods/results: We report the case of an 8-year-old child referred to our emergency department for recurrent headache and sudden strabismus.

: The aim of the present prospective study was to evaluate the lacrimal fluid concentration of HMGB1 in young patients affected by Vernal Keratoconjunctivitis (VKC) compared to a control group of healthy subjects of same age. : Tear fluids was collected in a group of VKC patients and compared to a control group of healthy subjects. HMGB1 concentration was measured using the HMGB1 ELISA II test both in VCK and control subjects.

Purpose: To compare the visual outcomes, reading performance, and quality of life (QoL) of working-age cataractous patients bilaterally implanted with 3 different diffractive multifocal intraocular lenses (MIOLs).

Design: Two-center, randomized, prospective, double-masked study.

Participants: Sixty-three consecutive patients (126 eyes) seen at Ophthalmology Section, Palermo and Florence University, Italy, randomized to receive the ReSTOR SN6AD3 (Alcon Laboratories, Inc, Irvine, CA) (20 patients, group A), ReSTOR SN6AD1 (Alcon Laboratories, Inc) (21 patients, group B), or TECNIS ZMA00 (Abbott Medical Optics, Santa Ana, CA) (22 patients, group C) MIOL.

The identification of ricin toxin A-chain (RTA) epitopes and the molecular context in which they are recognized will allow strategies to be devised that prevent/suppress an anti-RTA immune response in patients treated with RTA-based immunotoxins. RTA-specific human T-cell lines and T-cell clones were produced by in vitro priming of PBMC. The T-cell clones used a limited set of Vbeta chains (Vbeta1, Vbeta2 and Vbeta8) to recognize RTA epitopes.
