Cost Analysis of Early vs Delayed Outpatient Repair of Inguinal Hernias in Premature Infants.

Introduction: Premature infants treated for inguinal hernias after hospital discharge require overnight post-operative observation for apnea monitoring until 50-60 weeks adjusted gestational age (AGA). This study aimed to compare costs associated with early (at time of diagnosis) versus delayed (at AGA not requiring overnight observation) repair of inguinal hernia in premature infants.

Methods: Costs were estimated using the average hospital charges at a single institution for three scenarios: 1) delayed repair 2) early repair requiring overnight observation, and 3) incarcerated inguinal hernia reduced but requiring delayed repair at 48 h.

Caregiver training improves child feeding behaviours in children with paediatric feeding disorder and may reduce caregiver stress: A systematic review and meta-analysis.

Purpose: The purpose of this systematic review and meta-analysis was to synthesise the evidence from randomised controlled trials for caregiver training on child and family outcomes for children with paediatric feeding disorder.

Method: A systematic review was conducted in accordance with PRISMA guidelines. Searches of Medline, CINAHL, PsychInfo, and EMBASE were conducted using the key concepts of paediatrics, feeding disorders, parents/caregivers, and training.

Ensemble machine learning to predict futile recanalization after mechanical thrombectomy based on non-contrast CT imaging.

Objectives: Despite successful recanalization after Mechanical Thrombectomy (MT), approximately 25 % of patients with Acute Ischemic Stroke (AIS) due to Large Vessel Occlusion (LVO) show unfavorable clinical outcomes, namely Futile Recanalization (FR). We aimed to use a Machine Learning (ML) Non-Contrast brain CT (NCCT) imaging predictive model to identify FR in patients undergoing MT.

Materials & Methods: Between July 2022 and December 2022, 70 consecutive patients with LVO undergoing a complete recanalization (eTICI 3) with MT within 8 h from onset at our Centre were analyzed.

Fewer than 20% of triple-negative breast cancer patients experience long-term responses to mainstay chemotherapy. Resistant tumor subpopulations use alternative metabolic pathways to escape therapy, survive, and eventually recur. Here, we show in vivo, longitudinal metabolic reprogramming in residual disease and recurrence of triple-negative breast cancer xenografts with varying sensitivities to the chemotherapeutic drug paclitaxel.

Critical elements of pediatric neuroblastoma surgery.

Neuroblastoma (NB) is the most common solid extracranial malignancy of childhood with an incidence of 1 per 100,000 in the United States compromising approximately 10 % of childhood cancer. Unfortunately, patients with high-risk NG continue to have long-term survival less than 50 %. Both Children's Oncology Group and the International Society of Paediatric Oncology have demonstrated the important role of surgery in the treatment of high-risk NB.
