Chromosome mis-segregation is common in human meiosis and mitosis, and the resulting aneuploidies are the leading cause of pregnancy loss. Preimplantation genetic testing for aneuploidy (PGT-A) seeks to prioritize chromosomally normal embryos for transfer based on genetic analysis of a biopsy of approximately five trophectoderm cells from blastocyst-stage fertilized (IVF) embryos. While modern PGT-A platforms classify these biopsies as aneuploid, euploid, or mosaic (possessing a mixture of normal and aneuploid cells), the underlying incidences of aneuploid, euploid, and mosaic embryos and the rates of meiotic and mitotic error that produced them remain largely unknown.

Nucleases, that is, enzymes that catalyze the hydrolysis of phosphodiester bonds in nucleic acids, are essential tools in molecular biology and biotechnology. Staphylococcus aureus nuclease is particularly interesting due to its thermostability and Ca dependence, making it the prime choice for applications where nuclease modulation is critical, such as ribosome profiling in bacteria and halophilic archaea. The latter poses a technical and economical challenge: high salt reaction conditions are essential for maintaining ribosome integrity but negatively impact the micrococcal nuclease (MNase) activity, necessitating using large amounts of nuclease to achieve efficient cleavage.

Background: Antimicrobial use (AMU) is a known driver of antimicrobial resistance. Insight into prevalence and correlates of AMU can help identify health inequities and areas for targeted action. To better understand sociodemographic and medical dimensions of AMU in Canada, the Public Health Agency of Canada, in partnership with Statistics Canada, developed a Rapid Response Module questionnaire on self-reported oral antibiotic use, to be administered as part of the 2018 Canadian Community Health Survey (CCHS).
