This study implements the permutation Jensen-Shannon distance as a metric for discerning ordinal patterns and similarities across multiple temporal scales in time series data. Initially, we present a numerically controlled analysis to validate the multiscale capabilities of this method. Subsequently, we apply our methodology to a complex photonic system, showcasing its practical utility in a real-world scenario.

This study compared the effects of a sled push priming session on performance in 20 m sprint times, vertical jump, and perceived recovery, in comparison to a control condition, during competitive microcycles. Sixteen young semi-professional football players completed two conditions: priming (heavy sled pushes and MD-1 training) and control (only MD-1 regular training), in a crossover design. Twenty-metre sprint times and countermovement jump (CMJ) were assessed 24 hours following the completion of the experimental sessions.

Quantum optical networks are instrumental in addressing the fundamental questions and enable applications ranging from communication to computation and, more recently, machine learning (ML). In particular, photonic artificial neural networks (ANNs) offer the opportunity to exploit the advantages of both classical and quantum optics. Photonic neuro-inspired computation and ML have been successfully demonstrated in classical settings, while quantum optical networks have triggered breakthrough applications such as teleportation, quantum key distribution and quantum computing.

Protein function is canonically believed to be more conserved than amino acid sequence, but this idea is only well supported in folded domains, where highly diverged sequences can fold into equivalent 3D structures. In contrast, intrinsically disordered protein regions (IDRs) do not fold into a stable 3D structure, thus it remains unknown when and how function is conserved for IDRs that experience rapid amino acid sequence divergence. As a model system for studying the evolution of IDRs, we examined transcriptional activation domains, the regions of transcription factors that bind to coactivator complexes.
