Tinnitus is a common sensorineural complication that can occur de novo or after cancer treatments involving cisplatin or radiotherapy. Considering the heterogeneous etiology and pathophysiology of tinnitus, the extent to which shared genetic risk factors contribute to de novo tinnitus and cancer treatment-induced tinnitus is not clear. Here we report a GWAS for de novo tinnitus using the UK Biobank cohort with nine loci showing significantly associated variants (p < 5 × 10).

In case-control single-cell RNA-seq studies, sample-level labels are transferred onto individual cells, labeling all case cells as affected, when in reality only a small fraction of them may actually be perturbed. Here, using simulations, we demonstrate that the standard approach to single cell analysis fails to isolate the subset of affected case cells and their markers when either the affected subset is small, or when the strength of the perturbation is mild. To address this fundamental limitation, we introduce HiDDEN, a computational method that refines the case-control labels to accurately reflect the perturbation status of each cell.

Hydrogel microsphere media allows for postsynthetic purification of single-walled carbon nanotubes (SWNTs), affording characterization and application of their unique (,) chirality-dependent properties. This work reports the characterization of five hydrogel resins, Sephacryl S-100, S-200, S-300, S-400, and S-500, and the implementation of each as a SWNT purification medium. The physiochemical properties of each resin were explored spectroscopically through elemental analyses and with both light and electron microscopy.
