Proteomics Analyses of Small Extracellular Vesicles of Aqueous Humor: Identification and Validation of GAS6 and SPP1 as Glaucoma Markers.

Cataracts and glaucoma account for a high percentage of vision loss and blindness worldwide. Small extracellular vesicles (sEVs) are released into different body fluids, including the eye's aqueous humor. Information about their proteome content and characterization in ocular pathologies is not yet well established.

Risk of renal damage associated with intravitreal anti-VEGF therapy for diabetic macular edema in routine clinical practice.

Purpose: Vascular endothelial growth factor inhibitors (anti-VEGF) have been shown to be effective in the treatment of diabetic macular edema. However, there is little information about the systemic effects of intraocular administration of anti-VEGF drugs in patients with coexistent diabetic nephropathy because it can produce adverse renal effects.

Methods: This retrospective cohort study analyzed the effect of intravitreal anti-VEGF drugs (bevacizumab, ranibizumab, or aflibercept) on eFGR and microalbuminuria (MicA) in patients with diabetic macular edema and nonproliferative retinopathy without chronic kidney disease (CKD).

Modification of the inverted flap technique compared to conventional internal limiting membrane peeling in complete macular hole surgery.

Aim: To describe the efficacy of a modification of the superior inverted flap technique, with maculorrhexis, in vitrectomy for full-thickness macular hole (MH) surgery compared to internal limiting membrane peeling (ILM).

Methods: Retrospective and comparative study of patients with MH. In group A, a superior ILM flap is created to cover the macular hole, and in group B conventional ILM peeling was performed.
