Extended sequential intravenous and oral antimicrobial therapy improves cure rate in postoperative intracranial neurosurgical infections: a Spanish multicenter retrospective study.

Background: Postoperative intracranial neurosurgical infections (PINI) complicate < 5% neurosurgeries. Scarce attention was dedicated to the extension and characteristics of its antimicrobial management considering their high morbidity, not negligible mortality, delayed hospital stay and increased healthcare costs.

Methods: We analyzed retrospectively (2014-2023) 162 PINI from eight Spanish third-level academic hospitals.

Respiratory Viral Coinfections in Pediatric Patients in the Primary Care Setting: A Multicenter Prospective Study Within the COPEDICAT Network.

Acute respiratory viral infections pose a significant healthcare burden on the pediatric population globally, but data on the dissemination pattern in the community due to the coronavirus disease 2019 (COVID-19) pandemic are scarce. We conducted a 2-year prospective multicenter study in Catalonia (Spain) that examined the prevalence and coinfection dynamics of respiratory viruses among 1276 pediatric patients from different age groups attending primary care. Coinfection analysis demonstrated complex patterns and revealed a coinfection rate of 23.

Mechanism of Asymmetric Homologation of Alkenylboronic Acids with CF-Diazomethane via Borotropic Rearrangement.

Density functional theory calculations have been performed to investigate the mechanism for the BINOL-catalyzed asymmetric homologation of alkenylboronic acids with CF-diazomethane. The reaction proceeds via a chiral BINOL ester of the alkenylboronic acid substrate. The calculations reveal a complex scenario for the formation of the chiral BINOL-alkenylboronate species, which is the key intermediate in the catalytic process.

Prevalence, Clinical Characteristics and Risk Factors of Post-COVID-19 Condition in a Multicenter Pediatric Primary and Hospital Care Cohort.

The prevalence of post-COVID-19 condition is not well defined. We describe a cohort of 244 children diagnosed with COVID-19 and followed up for 6 months, in which 4.9% of patients had persistent symptoms at 12 weeks.

Unlocking the Asymmetric Hydrogenation of Tetrasubstituted Acyclic Enones.

Asymmetric hydrogenation (AH) of tetrasubstituted olefins generating two stereocenters is still an open topic. There are only a few reports on the AH of tetrasubstituted olefins with conjugated functional groups, while this process can create useful intermediates for the subsequent elaboration of relevant end products. Most of the tetrasubstituted olefins successfully submitted to AH belong to a small number of functional classes; remarkably, the AH of tetrasubstituted acyclic enones still represents an unsolved challenge.
