The optic disc and retinal neovascularization are less prominent and less frequent in myopic eyes in patients suffering from diabetes mellitus. The exact mechanisms of this phenomenon are not well known, but there is some evidence that there is a reduced blood flow in myopic eyes which is associated with less damaged microcirculation in eyes of patients with diabetes mellitus. The aim of our study was to evaluate the correlation between myopic refractive error and degree of diabetic retinopathy.
