Assessing the incidence of hyperoxia and the effectiveness of Oxygen Reserve Index-guided FiO2 titration in hyperoxia prevention.

Background: Although pulse oximetry technology, which is considered the standard of care to ensure optimum oxygenation, is indispensable in clinical practice, especially in the detection of hypoxemia, it has some limitations in the detection of hyperoxemia. Oxygen Reserve Index can provide clinicians with a crucial pathway in detecting and preventing hyperoxia, noninvasively. Our aim in this study is to determine the hyperoxia detection ability of ORi and to investigate the effectiveness of ORi and SpO-guided FiO titration in preventing hyperoxia.

Loss of Lamin A leads to the nuclear translocation of AGO2 and compromised RNA interference.

In mammals, RNA interference (RNAi) was historically studied as a cytoplasmic event; however, in the last decade, a growing number of reports convincingly show the nuclear localization of the Argonaute (AGO) proteins. Nevertheless, the extent of nuclear RNAi and its implication in biological mechanisms remain to be elucidated. We found that reduced Lamin A levels significantly induce nuclear influx of AGO2 in SHSY5Y neuroblastoma and A375 melanoma cancer cell lines, which normally have no nuclear AGO2.

Anaphylaxis After Consumption of Guar Gum-Containing Food: A Report of Two Cases.

Guar gum is a food additive that acts as a thickening agent. Although the relationship between guar gum and occupational rhinitis/asthma has already been established, only very few cases of anaphylaxis were associated with guar gum ingestion. We present two examples of anaphylaxis induced by guar gum.

Violence toward emergency physicians: A prospective-descriptive study.

Background: The highest rate of workplace violence occurs in the health sector, although most cases remain unreported. Emergency services face the majority of these incidents for many reasons, such as the patient profile, long waiting time, and overcrowding. We aimed to determine the characteristics and causes of violence toward emergency physicians.
