Objective: Identifying factors influencing cannabidiol (CBD) exposure can optimize treatment efficacy and safety. We aimed to describe the population pharmacokinetics of CBD in children with drug-resistant developmental and epileptic encephalopathies (DEEs) and assess the influence of environmental, pharmacological, and clinical characteristics on CBD systemic exposure.

Methods: Data from two pharmacokinetic studies of patients aged 2-18 years with DEEs were included (N = 48 patients).

Background: Most patients with a pediatric rheumatic disease are at increased risk of influenza due to immunosuppressive medication use. Despite initial quality improvement efforts, our influenza vaccination rate plateaued at 72%, which prompted a survey of patients and families to assess provider vaccine recommendations, influenza knowledge, and barriers to influenza vaccination.

Methods: Patients on immunosuppressive medication or their parent were eligible to complete a survey between July 2019 and January 2020.

Article Synopsis
  • Juvenile Dermatomyositis (JDM) is a rare autoimmune disorder with various subtypes, and anti-MDA5 is one of the associated myositis-specific antibodies, though treatment protocols are not well defined.
  • A case study details a previously healthy 14-month-old girl with anti-MDA5 JDM presenting symptoms like rash, weakness, and liver issues, ultimately responding well to treatment with steroids and tofacitinib.
  • This case highlights the importance of considering anti-MDA5 JDM when diagnosing patients with liver, muscle, and skin symptoms, emphasizing the need for standardized treatment approaches and more research into the mechanisms of the disease.

3D printing technology is revolutionizing pharmaceuticals, offering tailored solutions for solid dosage forms. This innovation is particularly significant for conditions like Chagas disease, which require weight-dependent treatments. In this work, a formulation of benznidazole (BNZ), the primary treatment for this infection, was developed to be utilized with the Melting Solidification Printing Process (MESO-PP) 3D printing technique.

Bariatric surgery (BS) has a significant impact on body composition (BC) and consequently may affect established sarcopenic obesity (SO) in candidate patients. The aim of this study was to assess the utility of muscle ultrasound (MUS) of rectus femoris thickness (RFT) for the evaluation of BC and skeletal muscle function in patients undergoing BS compared to bioimpedance analysis (BIA), dual-energy X-ray absorptiometry (DEXA) and dynamometry. On the other hand, we aimed to demonstrate how MUS of RFT correlates with quality of life (QoL) in this population, likely due to its ability to detect regional quadriceps muscle sarcopenia compared to the other mentioned methods.
