Localized molecular chaperone synthesis maintains neuronal dendrite proteostasis.

Proteostasis is maintained through regulated protein synthesis and degradation and chaperone-assisted protein folding. However, this is challenging in neuronal projections because of their polarized morphology and constant synaptic proteome remodeling. Using high-resolution fluorescence microscopy, we discover that hippocampal and spinal cord motor neurons of mouse and human origin localize a subset of chaperone mRNAs to their dendrites and use microtubule-based transport to increase this asymmetric localization following proteotoxic stress.

"It's Just Good Science": A Qualitative Study Exploring Equity, Diversity and Inclusion in Canadian Arthritis Research.

Objective: Despite knowledge that health outcomes vary according to patient characteristics, identity, and geography, including underrepresented populations in arthritis research remains a challenge. We conducted interviews to explore how researchers in arthritis have used equity, diversity, and inclusion (EDI) principles to inform their research.

Methods: Semi-structured interviews were conducted with individuals who 1) have experience conducting arthritis research studies; 2) reside in and/or conduct their research in Canada; and 3) speak English or French.

Obesity is one of the non-communicable chronic diseases with the highest increase in recent decades in Latin America, affecting children, adolescents, and especially young adults. Forty percent of adults have a body mass index greater than 25 kg/m2. Numerous studies have demonstrated a relationship between obesity and cardiovascular diseases such as hypertension, coronary artery disease, heart failure, cardiac arrhythmias, diabetes, sleep apnea, and oncological diseases, among others.

Predictors of cost-related medication nonadherence in Canada: a repeated cross-sectional analysis of the Canadian Community Health Survey.

Background: In Canada, many patients face substantial out-of-pocket costs for prescription medication, which may affect their ability to take their medications as prescribed. We sought to conduct a comprehensive analysis of the burden and predictors of cost-related nonadherence in Canada.

Methods: Using pooled data from the 2015, 2016, 2018, 2019, and 2020 iterations of the Canadian Community Health Survey, we calculated weighted population estimates of the burden of cost-related nonadherence in the preceding 12 months and used logistic regression models to measure the association of 15 demographic, health, and health system predictors of cost-related nonadherence overall and stratified by sex.

The assessment of myopenia and muscle biopsy in pediatric patients with liver disease awaiting liver transplantation - A cross-sectional analysis.

Little is known about the skeletal muscle characteristics (fibre type proportion and size, location of nuclei, presence of fat infiltration) in children with liver disease with radiologically determined myopenia (low muscle mass). During liver transplantation (LTx) surgery, biopsies from the rectus abdominis muscle were collected. Muscle fibre types (I, I/IIA, IIA, IIA/X, IIX) and CSA index (µm/m2) were determined using immunofluorescence staining.
