For the solution of ecological problems in the framework of the preparation of the municipal ecological program in the city of Verkhnyaya Pyshma (Sverdlovskaya Oblast) there was peiformed the assessment of the state of population health, the evaluation of carcinogenic and non-carcinogenic health risk from chemicals that pollute the air and drinking water Atmospheric air was established to be the main environment cause for carcinogenic and non-carcinogenic risks. The obtained results served as the basis for the development of technological, sanitary and hygienical measures of the program aimed at optimizing of the population health.

The established tense environmental situation in Krasnouralsk, Sverdlovsk Region, presents a serious threat to human health. Development of a medium-term municipal environmental program for a Krasnouralsk urban district provides solutions of environmental problems. The human health status and carcinogenic and non-carcinogenic risks from exposure to chemical substances polluting ambient air, drinking water, and soil have been assessed within the framework of the program.

Dermatoglyphic traits proved to be closely associated with chronic mechanic bronchitis (CMB). With the most informative traits identified, it is possible to estimate the individual predisposition to this occupational disorder and thereby to increase the efficiency of preliminary and follow-up medical examinations. Comparison with data on dermatoglyphic traits predisposed to various types of pneumoconiosis supported the hypothesis on a single mechanical lung disease or "general dust lung disease".

With the help of mathematical methods of pattern recognition the analysis of complex cancer risk factors was conducted aiming at estimation the role of chronic radiation exposure in development of lung and breast cancer in dwellers of an industrial city exposed to irregular radioactive contamination as a result of an accident at PO "Mayak". It was shown, that chronic radiation exposure is an important factor, influenced the development of malignant neoplasms in city population.

The dermatoglyphic studies showing the existence of genetic predisposition to the development of lung tuberculosis were conducted. Comparison of dermatoglyphs of patients with various forms of tuberculosis has shown their significant coincidence. A hypothesis about similar character of predisposition to all forms of lung tuberculosis is suggested.
