Spinal cord involvement by Schistosomiasis is considered to be rare. We report a case of acute transverse myelitis due to Schistosoma mansoni in which treatment with praziquantal and steroids was started three days after the onset of a paraparesis, with complete neurological recovery.

The hypertension was refractory to conventional medical treatment but responsive to captopril therapy. Deterioration in renal function occurred on initiation of captopril therapy; this resolved on reduction of dosage.

Between 1982 and 1984, 101 patients with prostatic cancer were detected in Soweto, Johannesburg. Of these patients 90 had clinical stage D disease and metastasis was common.
