X-ray free-electron lasers (FELs) are state-of-the-art scientific tools capable to study matter on the scale of atomic processes. Since the initial operation of X-ray FELs more than a decade ago, several facilities with upgraded performance have been put in operation. Here we present the first lasing results of Athos, the soft X-ray FEL beamline of SwissFEL at the Paul Scherrer Institute in Switzerland.

Research Question: Do Medical Operations Coordination Centers (MOCC) augment patient placement during times of severe capacity challenges?
Study Design And Methods: The Minnesota MOCC was established with a focus on transfer of adult ICU and medical-surgical patients; trauma, cardiac, stroke, burn, and extracorporeal membrane oxygenation cases were excluded. The center operated within one health care system's bed management center, using a dedicated 24/7 telephone number.
We report an in-plane extended nanopore Coulter counter (XnCC) chip fabricated in a thermoplastic via imprinting. The fabrication of the sensor utilized both photolithography and focused ion beam milling to make the microfluidic network and the in-plane pore sensor, respectively, in Si from which UV resin stamps were generated followed by thermal imprinting to produce the final device in the appropriate plastic (cyclic olefin polymer, COP). As an example of the utility of this in-plane extended nanopore sensor, we enumerated SARS-CoV-2 viral particles (VPs) affinity-selected from saliva and extracellular vesicles (EVs) affinity-selected from plasma samples secured from mouse models exposed to different ionizing radiation doses.

This instrument combines an attosecond table-top high-harmonic light source with mid-infrared (mid-IR) pulses, both driven by 1.7-1.

The historical Veterans Administration-Armed Forces database, recorded primarily before the advent of antifungal therapy, presents an opportunity to characterize the natural history of pulmonary CM. We performed a retrospective cohort study of 342 armed forces service members who were diagnosed with pulmonary CM at VA facilities between 1955 to 1958, followed through 1966, who did not receive antifungal therapy.
