Conditioning with fludarabine and treosulfan compared to FLAMSA-RIC in allogeneic stem cell transplantation for myeloid malignancies: a retrospective single-center analysis.

Reduced intensity conditioning (RIC) and reduced toxicity conditioning (RTC) regimens enable allogeneic hematopoietic stem cell transplantation (alloSCT) to more patients due to reduction in transplant-related mortality (TRM). The conditioning regimens with fludarabine and treosulfan (Flu/Treo) or fludarabine, amsacrine, cytarabine (FLAMSA)-RIC have shown their efficacy and tolerability in various malignancies. So far, no prospective study comparing the two regimens is available.

Graft-versus-host disease or toxic epidermal necrolysis: diagnostic dilemma after liver transplantation.

Graft-versus-host disease (GvHD) and toxic epidermal necrolysis (TEN) are rare and severe complications after liver transplantation. While mild acute GvHD is quite different from TEN and easy to distinguish, severe acute GvHD and TEN can be hard to differentiate because of similar clinical symptoms. We herein report a case with rapid progression of critical illness, after liver transplantation, caused by GvHD or TEN, although between those, diagnosis was not possible during the clinical course.

FP-CIT SPECT does not predict the progression of motor symptoms in Parkinson's disease.

Background/aims: FP-CIT (fluoropropyl-2β-carbomethoxy-3β-4-iodophenyl-nortroptane) SPECT is a well-established nuclear medicine method to support the clinical diagnosis of Parkinson's disease (PD). In this study, we examined the prognostic value of FP-CIT SPECT concerning the PD motor symptoms.

UV filters for hair protection.

Synopsis Hair damage, caused by sunlight, and the possibility to protect hair against sunlight by means of cosmetic formulations was studied. For this, five UV-filters were tested: benzophenone-3 (UV-A/UV-B); benzophenone-4 (UV-A/UV-B); phenylbenzimidazole sulfonic acid (UV-B); butylmethoxydibenzoylmethane (UV-A); octyl dimethyl PABA (UV-B). The stability of the UV-filters was tested as pure substances as well as in two cosmetic formulations: a setting lotion and a shine spray.
