It is important to detect liver involvement in extranodal lesions in malignant hematologic disorders to make accurate diagnoses and estimate their clinical stage. We report seven cases of malignant lymphoma and a case of histiocytosis X. All patients expressed positive C-reactive protein and a high erythrocyte sedimentation rate, and a high serum value of alkaline phosphatase or lactic dehydrogenase was seen.

In October 14, 1982, a 30-year-old male was admitted to the hospital because of a left flank pain and melena. On undergoing testing, an upper gastrointestinal series revealed barium retention in the small bowel, in which an abdomen X-p showed an abnormal gas shadow. Endoscopic examinations revealed depressive lesions, and the histological diagnosis was malignant neoplasm with a duodenal wall infiltration.

A 71-year-old man was hospitalized in November, 1983 for a back pain and a diagnosis of multiple myeloma was made, based on the Bence Jones proteinuria, The serum M-component of a IgG-kappa type (3.3 g/dl), and plasmacytosis in the bone marrow (37%). Treatment consisted of melphalan and prednisolone.

A review of 65 patients with multiple myeloma (MM) and 10 patients with primary macroglobulinemia (PM) seen at our clinic from 1972 through 1988 revealed further cancers that were found in 11 patients with MM and in 2 patients with PM. In 4 of 13 patients with multiple primary neoplasms, either MM or PM was an antecedent. In 6 patients, MM or PM was coincident with the cancers.

TAEs were performed for 14 cases of nodular type hepatocellular carcinomas. The tumor size in 10 of the 14 cases was less than 5.0 cm in diameter.
