Background: In preterm infants, spinal anesthesia (SpA) is recognized as an alternative to general anesthesia for inguinal hernia repair (IHR); however, some patients require supplemental anesthesia during surgery. The purpose of this study was to investigate the frequency and impact of supplemental anesthesia on perioperative care and adverse respiratory and hemodynamic events.

Methods: A retrospective study of preterm infants undergoing IHR at Heidelberg University Hospital within the first year of life between 2009 and 2018 was carried out.

Background: Pulmonary hypertension (PH) is common in patients with left-side valvular diseases, especially with mitral regurgitation (MR). During mitral valve surgery echocardiography is routinely used for valvular management and to evaluate pulmonary hemodynamic.

Background: Atrial fibrillation (AF) represents the most frequent arrhythmic disorder after thoracoabdominal esophageal resection and is associated with a significant increase in perioperative morbidity and mortality.

Methods: In this retrospective cohort study, 167 patients who underwent thoracoabdominal esophagectomy at a large university hospital were assessed. We compared patients who received a 14-day postoperative course of diltiazem with a control group of patients who did not undergo diltiazem prophylaxis.
