Carotid revascularization surgery is notorious for its neurological morbimortality. We report the case of a 74-year-old hypertensive patient, who underwent left internal carotid artery endarterectomy for a 90% stenosis under general anesthesia, presenting in the immediate postoperative period with right hemiplegia without consciousness disorders. Evaluation by cerebral ultrasound at bedside led to suspicion of intracerebral hemorrhage, which was confirmed by cerebral CT scan.

The Variational Monte Carlo (VMC) method has recently seen important advances through the use of neural network quantum states. While more and more sophisticated ansatze have been designed to tackle a wide variety of quantum many-body problems, modest progress has been made on the associated optimization algorithms. In this work, we revisit the Kronecker-Factored Approximate Curvature (KFAC), an optimizer that has been used extensively in a variety of simulations.

Experimental studies of the products of elementary gas-phase chemical reactions occurring at low temperatures (<50 K) are very scarce, but of importance for fundamental studies of reaction dynamics, comparisons with high-level quantum dynamical calculations, and, in particular, for providing data for the modeling of cold astrophysical environments, such as dense interstellar clouds, the atmospheres of the outer planets, and cometary comae. This study describes the construction and testing of a new apparatus designed to measure product branching fractions of elementary bimolecular gas-phase reactions at low temperatures. It combines chirped-pulse Fourier transform millimeter wave spectroscopy with continuous uniform supersonic flows and high repetition rate laser photolysis.

A healthy 12-month-old female presented with relapsing and remitting urticaria since birth that was resistant to treatment with antihistamines. A thorough history revealed extensive rheumatic disease on the father's side of the family, and subsequent genetic testing was positive for a missense variant of NLRP3, indicating cryopyrin-associated periodic fever syndrome (CAPS). CAPS encompasses a spectrum of diseases, all related to a defect in the same gene; manifestations vary in severity and presentation, but most are associated with recurrent rash and fever.
