Synchrotron radiation microtomography of bone engineered from bone marrow stromal cells.

Osteoprogenitor cells expanded in vitro and associated with porous ceramic scaffolds have been proposed as bone substitutes. Animal models have been developed to test the efficacy of various cell populations and scaffolds in promoting bone repair. Qualitative analysis of the new bone formed within the ceramic scaffold is relatively easy by conventional histology.

Cortical bone in the human femoral neck: three-dimensional appearance and porosity using synchrotron radiation.

Unlabelled: A high-resolution CT system using synchrotron radiation allowed visualization of the 3D cortical bone microarchitecture and measurement of intracortical porosity of femoral neck cortical bone specimens from 19 female cadavers imaged at 10.13-microm resolution. 3D reconstruction of specimens showed osteonal system arrangement.
